Serving Size and Yield
Makes approximately 2 cups, serving 4-6 people as a dip.
Preparation and Cooking Time
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
- 1/4 cup tahini
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2-4 tablespoons water, as needed
Instructions
- Prepare the chickpeas by draining and rinsing them under cold water. This helps remove excess sodium and any canned taste.
- Combine the chickpeas, coriander leaves, tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, cumin, salt, and pepper in a food processor.
- Blend the mixture until smooth. If the houmous is too thick, gradually add water, one tablespoon at a time, until the desired consistency is reached.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary, adding more salt, pepper, or lemon juice to suit your preference.
- Transfer the houmous to a serving bowl. Drizzle with a little extra olive oil and garnish with additional coriander leaves if desired.
Additional Notes
For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a chopped green chili. You can also substitute parsley for coriander if you prefer a milder flavor. This houmous can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
