Homemade Crispy Chilli Oil is a delightful condiment that adds a fiery kick and a satisfying crunch to any dish. Ingredients
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup dried red chilli flakes
- 2 tablespoons Sichuan peppercorns
- 1/4 cup fried shallots
- 1/4 cup fried garlic
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 star anise
- 3 bay leaves
Instructions
- Prepare a heatproof bowl by placing the chilli flakes, Sichuan peppercorns, fried shallots, and fried garlic in it.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the cinnamon stick, star anise, and bay leaves.
- Simmer the oil with the spices for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool for 5 minutes.
- Pour the warm oil through a strainer over the prepared bowl with chilli flakes and other ingredients. Discard the whole spices.
- Stir in the soy sauce, sugar, and salt until well combined.
- Cool the chilli oil completely before transferring it to a clean jar for storage.
Additional Notes
For a milder version, reduce the amount of chilli flakes. You can also add sesame seeds for extra flavor. Store the chilli oil in a sealed jar in the refrigerator for up to a month.
