- 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- 1 cup raisins
- 1 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

- Add the chopped onion, grated ginger, cinnamon, cloves, salt, and cayenne pepper to the pot.
- Stir the mixture well to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
- Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for about 45 minutes, or until the chutney thickens and the apples are tender.
- Stir occasionally to prevent sticking, and adjust seasoning if necessary.
- Remove from heat and let the chutney cool slightly before transferring it to sterilized jars.
- Seal the jars and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.
Additional Notes
For a spicier chutney, increase the amount of cayenne pepper. You can also substitute pears for apples for a different flavor profile. This chutney pairs wonderfully with sharp cheddar cheese or as a topping for grilled pork chops.
