Preparation and Cooking Time

Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 cup cashews, soaked in water for 2 hours and drained
- 200g smoked tofu, crumbled
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 24 gyoza wrappers
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, for frying
- 1/4 cup water, for steaming
- Optional: soy sauce or dipping sauce of choice, for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the filling by combining the soaked cashews, crumbled smoked tofu, soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and green onions in a food processor. Pulse until the mixture is well combined but still slightly chunky.
- Assemble the gyoza by placing a teaspoon of filling in the center of each gyoza wrapper. Moisten the edges with water, fold the wrapper in half, and press to seal, pleating the edges if desired.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the gyoza in a single layer, flat side down, and cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown.
- Pour in the water, cover the skillet with a lid, and steam the gyoza for 5 minutes or until the water has evaporated and the wrappers are tender.
- Remove the lid and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to re-crisp the bottoms.
- Serve the gyoza hot with soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
Additional Notes
For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free gyoza wrappers. You can also add finely chopped vegetables like cabbage or carrots to the filling for extra texture and flavor.
