Ingredients
- 1 cup cooked chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
- 8 hot dog buns
- Condiments of choice (mustard, ketchup, relish, etc.)
Instructions
- Prepare a food processor. Add the chickpeas, oats, onion, garlic, soy sauce, tomato paste, smoked paprika, cumin, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- Blend the mixture until it forms a thick, cohesive dough. You may need to scrape down the sides of the processor a few times.
- Shape the dough into 8 equal-sized logs, resembling hot dogs.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Lightly oil the skillet if necessary.
- Cook the vegan hot dogs in the skillet for about 7-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are browned on all sides.
- Serve the hot dogs in buns with your choice of condiments.
Additional Notes
For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free oats and buns. You can also add your favorite spices or herbs to the mixture for a personalized flavor. These hot dogs can be grilled instead of pan-fried for a more authentic barbecue taste.
